Overview

Da Vinci Academy Summer Day Camp is open to the public.  Jamie Barbeau, the Summer Camp director, has put together a terrific program that offers kids an opportunity for fun, excitement, and discovery in a lively but well-supervised day camp setting.  Each week of camp offers a variety of activities including swim days, guest speakers, field trips, camp songs, arts & crafts, sports & games, enrichment classes, and discovery learning classes.

Summer Camp includes five options:

  • Full day camp (9:00am-3:30pm) for students entering grades K-6
  • Mini-camp for children age four that meets Mon-Fri from 9am-12pm
  • Leaders in Training (LIT) for students entering 7th grade and above
  • Tutor Time for K through LIT offers additional instruction in reading and math Mon-Thurs from 4:15-5:00
  • Lock-ins occur one night every other week of camp, open to campers from 4th grade through LIT
Before and After care is available each day for a flat fee of $6 per hour.  All campers can use before care starting at 7:00am, but only campers in the full-day and LIT programs may use after care.  Mini-camp attendees must be picked up at 12:00pm.


Location

The camp runs at the Da Vinci Academy campus, located at 37W080 Hopps Rd. in Elgin (turn west on Hopps from Randall Rd).  The camp includes activities held at the school campus, along with a weekly swim day at Wing Park in Elgin.

Duration (info listed is for Summer 2010)

The camp consists of nine weekly sessions running from mid-June to mid-August, with campers welcome to enroll for as many weeks as they like (as space allows).

Full-day camp sessions (for grades K-6 and the LIT program) run Mon-Fri from 9:00am to 3:30pm.  Mini Camp for children ages 4 runs from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

June 14-18: Not Easy Being Green
Learn about how we can take care of our Earth. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

June 21-25: Put Me In Coach (June 25 Lock-In)
Learn about sporting events and games, as well as why you need academics while playing sports. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

Lock-in: Survivor
Can you survive to the last round of the night? This lock-in focuses on (safe) team challenges. Come for pizza, activities, movies, roasted marshmallows, breakfast, and leave with memories to last a lifetime.

June 28-July 2: Indian Outlaw
Learn about Native Americans and their unique traditions as well as farming and how it affects our lives in America. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

Guest Speaker on Friday 7/2: Professional storyteller Paddy Lynn will thrill the camp with Native American tales and story acting.

July 5-9: Surfin' In The USA (July 9 Lock-In)
Learn about volcanic activity and life on the islands. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

Lock-in: Fear Factor
Are you the bravest of the brave? This lock-in focuses on individual silly (and safe) challenges. Come for pizza, activities, movies, roasted marshmallows, breakfast, and leave with memories to last a lifetime.

July 12-16: George Of The Jungle
Learn about jungle animals, the circle of life, and why the lion is the king of the jungle. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

Guest Speaker on Thursday 7/15: staff and animal friends from the Cosley Zoo

July 18-23: Flight Of The Bumblebee (July 23 Lock-In)
Learn about those icky-sticky, creepy-crawly, bugs and insects and their role in our circle of life. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

Guest Speakers on Thursday 7/22: bug experts Russ Higgins and Deanna Roby from the U of I Extension program

Lock-in: Myth Busters
Do you love solving problems? This lock-in focuses on completing science experiments to prove or disprove some popular myths. Come for pizza, activities, movies, roasted marshmallows, breakfast, and leave with memories to last a lifetime.

July 26-30: Party In The USA
Lights, camera, action! Learn about the magic of the movies! All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

Guest Speaker on Thursday 7/29: Theater coach Ian Custer will lead acting exercises and games

August 2-6: The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything (August 6 Lock-In)
Learn about ocean animals and their habitats. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

August 9-13: Kryptonite
Learn about community heroes and what it takes to be one. All academics, guest speakers, and recreational activities relate to this concept.

Lock-in: Extreme Makeover
Do you love helping others? This lock-in focuses on completing in-school service projects. This may also count for volunteer hours students may need. Come for pizza, activities, movies, roasted marshmallows, breakfast, and leave with memories to last a lifetime.

Cost

Full-day camp is $140 per week.  A non-refundable deposit of $70 per week of camp is due with your registration to hold your spot.  The total remaining balance will be due by the Monday that a camper begins a session.

Mini-Camp is $70 per week, with the full amount per week due prior to the Monday that a camper begins a session.

The LIT program is $30 per week, with the full amount per week due prior to the Monday that a camper begins a session.

Tutor Time is $15 per session.  Mondays are math sessions for grades K-3, Tuesdays are math sessions for 4th-LIT, Wednesdays are reading sessions for grades K-3, and Thursdays are reading sessions for 4th-LIT.  Students must attend camp the same week they participate in Tutor Time.

Lock-Ins are held one night every other week and cost $40.  Campers must attend camp the same week of the Lock-In to participate.

Before and After care is available every day for an additional charge of $6 per hour.


Registration

Families can print a PDF of the brochure and registration form or pick up a hard copy at the school or via mail by request.  Please return completed registration forms and the deposit in person to Da Vinci Academy, or by mail to Da Vinci Academy Summer Day Camp, 37W080 Hopps Rd, Elgin IL 60124.

Upon registration, campers will receive a health form to be completed and returned before the first Monday a camper's session.  Families may also print the health form here.
