Spring 2006 three

MathCounts

Information for 2010-11 coming soon!

MathCounts is a national program for middle school math students.  Da Vinci participates under the direction of Mrs. Detzler (ext 238, cdetzler@dvacademy.org), the lead middle school math teacher.  Students meet weekly throughout the year to work on practice problems in preparation for the regional competition.  Qualified teams can then advance to the state competition.

Students from grades 5-8 are welcome to attend the weekly practices, although not every student will be able to participate in the regional MathCounts event.  Team rosters are capped, so Mrs. Detzler will select the team members based on practice attendance, accuracy at practice, interest in competing, and teamwork.

In addition to participating in MathCounts, students can represent Da Vinci at other local and regional math competitions.  For the past several years, Da Vinci has sent teams to events at IMSA, Marmion, and St. Francis.  These events do provide opportunities for more students to compete, so students should speak with Mrs. Detzler about participating.
