7th & 8th Graders Excel on National Spanish Exam
Several Da Vinci 7th and 8th graders werte recognized for their scores on the National Spanish Exam. Da Vinci had one gold medalist, six silver medalists, six bronze medalists, and six honorable mentions. 7th grader Ty Bottorff was a gold medalist and won overall 1st place in the Level 01 category.

Six Da Vinci Students Score in Top 2% of Midwest Academic Talent Search
Six Da Vinci students qualified for the Midwest Academic Talent Search award ceremony by scoring in the top 1-2% on the SAT, ACT, or Explore test taken by over 28,000 gifted students in grades 3-8.

Da Vinci Earns Two Top Ten Finishes at State Chess Tournament
The Da Vinci Academy chess team earned 3rd and 9th place honors at the Illinois Scholastic Chess Championship held March 15-16 in Glenview. This is the third straight year in which Da Vinci has earned two Top 10 finishes at the state tournament. 3rd grader Luke F. was the top individual player, tying for 14th place out of 250 players in the division for grades 2-3.

Da Vinci Chess Team Earns Team and Individual Honors at Glen Ellyn Tou...
On February 9th, Da Vinci Academy competed in the Midwest Scholastic Chess Tournament held in Glen Ellyn. This was the largest tournament of the season, with over 350 players from four states. Da Vinci's junior high team finsihed in 1st place, while the younger teams placed 3rd and 4th. Almost 20 Da Vinci students earned Top 5 individual honors.

Da Vinci Academy placed 4th as a team in the regional Mathcounts competition held February 2nd at IMSA. Two Da Vinci students placed 4th and 8th overall in the individual scoring. Da Vinci qualified to moved on to the state contest on March 8th.

Da Vinci Academy 7th grade students took part in the Word Masters Challenge, a national language arts competition entered by over 230,000 annually. Keith K. was one of only 61 students to earn a perfect score, while three other Da Vinci students were recognized for outstanding scores.

2nd Grader Serves as Head of School for a Day
Da Vinci 2nd grade student Hunter C. experienced life as Head of School on Tuesday, November 13th. Hunter spent his day sampling the duties and responsibilities that come with being in charge, as well as the perks such as having a "power lunch" off-campus and declaring an extra recess for his 2nd grade classmates.

On November 3rd, the Da Vinci Academy Chess Team won a 1st Place and three 2nd Place trophies at the Illinois State Scholastic All-Grade Chess Championships in Bloomington, IL. Several students placed individually also.

The November issue of Chicago Parents magazine features a special section on independent schools. One of the articles is about middle school science programs, and Da Vinci Academy faculty member Rod Allen is highlighted for his work with students monitoring local creek ecology.

Da Vinci students and teachers in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade made and sold gourment dog treats to raise money for the Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin. The kids and teachers raised over $500 to support the shelter.

Findings of a study published in the Spring 2006 issue of Gifted Child Quarterly support the important role of classroom environment and learning style preferences in the performance of gifted middle school students. The study describes several classroom and pedagogical characteristics that are consistent with the approach of the Da Vinci Academy faculty.

The Da Vinci Chess Team wrapped up a fantastic season with a strong performance at the State Tournament held February 25-26 at Navy Pier. Da Vinci's K-1 team finished 15th overall, while the teams from grades 2-3 and 4-5 each finished in the Top 10.
