DVA Receives Illinois EPA Green Youth Award

Da Vinci Academy middle school students were recognized on Earth Day, April 22nd, by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency with a Green Youth Award for their project on proper tire inflation.  Students in the advisory groups of Mr. Allen and Senora Schnecke served as the school's Winter Town Council and devised a service project to study the benefits of maintaining proper tire pressure.  The students researched the safety, environmental, and fuel efficiency benefits of proper tire pressure, and carried out a project to check and properly inflate the car tires of Da Vinci parents and staff.

The students submitted an application describing their project to the Illinois EPA, and were selected to receive one of the state agency's annual Green Youth Awards.  Mr. Allen, Senora Schnecke, the participating students, and several of the students' parents traveled to Springfield on Earth Day, April 22nd, to receive their award from Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Illinois EPA Director Doug Scott.  The award ceremony was held at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum.
