About Mr. Maskell
Mr. Maskell brings an accomplished record of teaching gifted
students that fits Da Vinci Academy's mission, philosophy, and
school community. In 2008-09, Mr. Maskell taught fourth grade
at The Avery Coonley School in Downers Grove. From 2005-08,
Mr. Maskell taught gifted third graders at Fearn Elementary in
North Aurora.
Colleagues and parents describe Mr. Maskell as hard working,
creative, caring, and willing to do whatever it takes to get the
most out of his students. In 2006, Mr. Maskell was nominated
for and chosen to receive the Sam's Club Teacher of the Year Award,
and Positive Promotions, Midwest, Teacher of the Year award.
Mr. Maskell is from England and in 1998 he earned a
bachelor's degree in elementary education from Newport
University. After teaching third grade for two years in
England, he moved to Chicago in 2000, earned his Illinois teaching
certificate, and taught at public schools in Chicago and Aurora for
four years before arriving at Fearn in 2005. He has started a
Master's program in gifted education at Northeastern Illinois
University in Chicago.
In addition to his experience teaching gifted students in all of
the core academic subject areas, Mr. Maskell has a passion for
after-school programs, enrichment classes, and coaching sports.
