Lower School
The Lower School division includes:
The elementary school years (Lower School) are a time for
students to become more independent, to develop good organization
and study skills, and to manage their time with homework and
long-range assignments. Teachers raise their expectations for
how students communicate, both through their writing and public
speaking skills. Reading goes beyond content, with an
emphasis on vocabulary and thinking analytically about the
characters and themes of the story. Students are challenged
to make connections between the past and present through social
studies, with an understanding of the social, political, economic,
and cultural circumstances that influenced how people lived
throughout history. Science and math are connected, with
opportunities to collect and analyze data and to predict results
based on previous observations and measurements.
Lower School students have one grade-level teacher who works
with them each day in their own home classroom. The
grade-level teachers cover all the primary academic subjects:
language arts & reading , social studies, math, and
science. Throughout the week, students go to different
teachers for our Specials classes: Spanish, Computer, Art, Music,
and Physical Education.
